Before I can fully move into the brand new year, I wanted to reflect over some of the highlights of the insane roller coaster that was 2011… so here is a list of my favorites, memories & accomplishments of 2011 and what I am looking forward to in 2012!
Best Exhibition Experience: Rivane Neunschwander: A Day Like Any Other @ SMoCA
I attended this mind-blowing retrospective and thanks to my old internship got to spend a lovely day at the Heard Museum with Rivane. I also mailed my best friends wishes I made for them, which made us all smile.
Rivane Neunschwander, I Wish Your Wish 2011
Favorite Art Piece: Christian Marclay, The Clock 2011
I spent a wonderful summer day in Los Angeles dragging my boyfriend to as many art museums as possible before he got burnt out. And like every critic and patron that attended the Venice Biennale, time stood still for us both as we watched The Clock. Truly a masterpiece.
Favorite Public Art Piece : John Baldessari, 15 seconds of fame 2011 @ the Australian Art Museum
My name was shown on the side of the Australian Art Museum in Sydney on January 25, 2011 for 15 seconds. Need I say more?
Favorite Museum: The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
Even though I’ve lived in Texas most my life, I had never been to this incredible museum. The architecture, that water, the Ricard Serra’s, and of course, the Martin Puryear ladder.. this museum was designed for modern art and I spent one of my most memorable days of 2011 exploring it.
Blog Most Visited: Self Publish, Be Happy (thanks Michael Max Mcleod!!) and FlakPhoto.com
Favorite Film: The Artist directed by Michel Hazanavicius
A silent black & white film that will be a personal favorite of mine for a long, long time. trust me, you need to see this film.
Best Album: She & Him, Volume Two
This was a tough choice but ultimately I determined by most plays.. and this one has been a constant on my ipod.
Greatest Accomplishment: I GRADUATED college with degrees in Photography and Art History! Woo!
Left to right: Adrian Lesoing, (see her work here & online vintage store) Sara K. King (her work here ) and ME!
Best Memory: (un-artrelated) I watched my beautiful best friend get married and was a bridesmaid for the first time!
Looking Forward to: seeing Maurizio Cattelan: All at the Guggenheim in NYC next month when I go for my first grad school interview! (wish me luck.)
Next Great Adventure: My first trip to Europe to travel with my brother during his 2 weeks of R&R during his deployment. I might just die and go to heaven from an art coma..
Alright well … I think I’ve covered it all. It’s 2012.. and I am ready to start another year full of art, adventures and dreaming big.
Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life without it. – Robert Motherwell
