know your rights

I like Hitrecord’s schoolhouse rocklike song educating photographers to know their rights when it comes to photographing in public spaces. This is an important issue and I am reminded of all the wise, wise advice my old photography professors would give us like…

1.be in good shape, if it doubt… snap the image and run 2.always know your exits 3.ask yourself, is this ethical? if your answer is yes even though it’s against the “rules” do it anyway 4.be prepared to hop fences if you have to 5.and the most valuable if things ever get tense or hostile… use your camera as a weapon. (this was always proceeded by a demonstration of Stephen Marc acting like he was swinging his invisible camera at a bandit.)

Hopefully it never comes to these extreme measures but it is always a good thing to know what your rights are as a photographer.

I am a little behind on the february challenge, as this has been a crazy week for me. We just wrapped up installing a huge exhibition at the museum and now I immediately must focus on my next big project… which is packing up the last 6 years of my life out here in Arizona to move back to Texas next week. I am excited to re-locate for a bit and know that the change in scenery will only bring greater insight and clarity to my life and I will continue to share my experiences with you. Plus I now have a whole new art scene to discover! With that said… here’s the last 3 days of the challenge.
