Classic Tuesdays

I went to the Jonas Mekas exhibition at MUAC  in Mexico City. The films, photographs and poetry  were so mesmerizing I had to share. His films are stunning, his words- moving.

“These are not memories. These are real – every detail you see in the films is real – memories are gone but the images are here and they are real, right there in front of your eyes – and I like it! I like what I see!’Jonas Mekas,  Artist Website Here.

My pictures must first be beautiful, but that beauty is not enough. I strive to convey an underlying edge of anxiety, of isolation, of fear. - Gregory Crewdson

it is this way.

[ something a little different today.] photos & prose.

fleeting feelings.   undone and unfinished.  not wanting to tarnish.   what’s always been lost.   lose whats never been had.   changing comes in patterns.   nothing lasts strong enough to grasp.   again, all unhad.   but it goes on.   cycles of circumstance.   tumble and dance.       to the fall of it.

a ladder to no where.

I’ve been scanning a friend of mine’s film for the past couple days and I couldn’t resist sharing with ya’ll this awesome double exposure, taken from a photo adventure we went on down in Dallas last summer. It’s just one of those happy accidents. (aren’t those the best?) Check out some of my shots from the trip here.

it’s my party!

Today is my birthday (!!!)  so I thought I’d scan and share two photographs that mean a lot to me. The first is my very first self-portrait done my freshmen year in Photo 101. The second was taken during my first trip to NYC back in 2007. Tipsy from the perfect Sunday brunch, me and my two best friends wandered into the Guggenheim then afterwards exhausted,  went to Central Park where we napped under a tree. I snapped this photograph, shut my eyes and remember thinking.. life could not be more beautiful.

I can not contain my excitement about finally seeing this documentary about Bill Cunningham,  an 80 year old fashion photographer who has worked at the New York Times for decades now. Fashion, New York City, and Photography.. seriously, what more in a film could you ask for? check out the trailer for Bill Cunningham New York

It got a very limited theatrical release, therefore I am counting down the days to Sept. 13 when it comes out on DVD (and hopefully Netflix..)

it ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive

whew. what a whirlwind this summer has been. I have spent the last couple weeks thinking, organizing, and planning. Now with school officially over and my life figured out at least for the next 6 months, I am ready to give this my all. So stay tuned for more frequency here in the future. For now, here is a beautiful short film that makes me wish I  could rewind time 8 years back and do it all over again. It’s called Youth, by 17 year old Tommy Petroni and I love it.

Don’t waste your youth, growing up.
