Today is one of my favorite authors, Kurt Vonnegut’s birthday and even though he’s not around to celebrate it.. I couldn’t let it pass unnoticed. What a man, what a man.

I am constantly collecting images and quotes found on the internet that spark something in me. Often they get lost in a folder, never finding a place on this blog..but today I thought I’d share some of those quick inspirations.

SURPRISEMISCHIEF ROBUSTFANTASY

John Chamberlain, Pineapplesurprise 2010,  Mermaidsmischief 2009,  Robustfagotto  2008

I stumbled upon this John Chamberlain installation at the Seagram Building on the corner of 53rd and Park Ave the other day in the mid-afternoon while the sun was in perfect gleaming mode for these works to truly sparkle in all their aluminum glory. These biomorphic forms are playful yet alien, whimsical but severe. They become activated by the time of the day, the intensity of the sun and the distance you approach them. I was startled with how powerful these works are, they literally demand your attention, though as I said I was there when the sun was most intense and I truly was blinded by the light.

Even If I knew I could only know what I thought it meant. -John Chamberlain

music that saves you, when you’re not so sure you’ll survive

For those of you that have been around here since the beginning.. you know this blog used to be named JAQsmannequin after my muse and all-time favorite singer, Andrew McMahon from the band Jack’s Mannequin. I have a tattoo of the bands logo behind my right ear, a bright blue asterisk that represents everyone traveling on separate paths but all being connected by love. I have been to exactly 20 Jack’s Mannequin concerts. I belted the lyrics to “Everything In Transit”, swayed with the crowd and felt just as invincible being 24 as I did when I was 17.  When Andrew McMahon got cancer, I wore his orange “11:11 AM” cancer bracelet every single day for two years until it was so thin and faded it ripped in half. Jack’s Mannequin was as much apart of my awkward adolescence angst as the camera around my neck. Probably even more. So I guess that’s why I take their break-up announcement so personally.  Jack’s Mannequin gave me more than a lullaby to handle the confusion, they gave me something to believe in.

I am lucky. I did not choose this life. It chose me. It’s strange like that; not picking my path, but rather easing into the water and letting it carry me where it will. Yes, there will be nights where I feel like my destiny is at my fingertips and there will be nights I wish the lights were off and I could just make these sounds in the dark. Still, I will always be there, wherever there might be, staring into blackness hoping the blackness stares back at me.- Andrew McMahon

I used to talk about Jack’s Mannequin ALOT on here.. check out some past posts if you’re curious. here & here & here

I am very excited to direct your attention to my new domain! thedreambeing.com

I think the change was much needed as JAQSmannequin was initially a school assignment and although I liked the traffic from those poor lost souls in search for the (amazing) piano rock pop band, Jack’s Mannequin, I thought it was time to settle down with something a little more me

I will still be using this space as a place for me to catalogue my various art related inspirations and post my on-going photography adventures! Also as a side course of awesomeness…

THIS IS MY 100TH BLOG POST!

own side now

In a week I am lonely

I wish I had some one to talk with.

In two weeks

I talk with myself.

In three weeks

I see things differently.

it ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive

whew. what a whirlwind this summer has been. I have spent the last couple weeks thinking, organizing, and planning. Now with school officially over and my life figured out at least for the next 6 months, I am ready to give this my all. So stay tuned for more frequency here in the future. For now, here is a beautiful short film that makes me wish I  could rewind time 8 years back and do it all over again. It’s called Youth, by 17 year old Tommy Petroni and I love it.

Don’t waste your youth, growing up.
